Karel Balas is a French photographer and art director who was born in Avignon in 1967. Today he lives and works in Paris. After working for more than fifteen years as an art director for various magazines (L’Officiel Homme, Jalouse, Biba, Fooding, DS, Bag), he created his own magazine, MilK, with Isis-Colombe Combréas in 2003. Self-taught and with a passion for images, in 2006 he quite naturally decided to turn to photography. Since then, he has continually explored the world of children, allowing his models to move freely in front of his camera and capturing some truly unique moments in images tinged with ‘sublime realism’. His current work includes interiors, portraits and features for MilK, Télérama, Elle Décor Italie, Living, Sunday Telegraph, Affaires Privées, Aigle, Chloé, Dior, Fendi, KaDeWe, Kenzo, Kickers, Lacoste, Le Bon Marché, Petit Bateau, Start-rite or Tommy Hilfiger.
